Ideas for Using Two-Tone Cardstock

Two-tone cardstock is a versatile craft paper you can use to add layers and detail to any project. This cardstock is the perfect starting point for any craft projects, offering different shades of the same color on each side. The ultrasmooth surface makes it an ideal paper for stamping, giving you clean, crisp images.
You can use both shades to create visual interest, using simple techniques that add a ton of personality to your project. Simply put, two-tone cardstock is a foundational product that can be used for much more than just a background. Find out the many ways you can use two-tone cardstock to make beautiful paper products.
How to Use Two-Tone Cardstock

One of the best ways to use two-tone cardstock is to layer it using dies. Note that the individual die pieces of the flowers and leaves are different shades of green and pink, respectively. They are two sides of the same paper, making them a natural match for layering die pieces. The different shades of the same color mimic the natural shadows and highlights of flowers, giving the whole project a feeling of depth.

Use two-tone cardstock to make an elevated striped background. By adding that structured background, the butterflies and embellishments have a solid anchor—the stripes help add dimension otherwise missing from the final project. Another fun feature of this project: complementary colors! The orange/tan colors are complementary to the blue/periwinkle shades, creating a lovely color balance.

One of the features of our two-tone cardstock is the white core, which means that between both colors is a white interior. That might not seem like a big deal, but check out how unique and interesting the border of this card is: by crinkling and then lightly sanding the two-tone black cardstock, the white core shows through, creating a textured border and jaw-dropping dimension.

The white core of the two-tone cardstock comes in handy when you want to create a softer, more textured look, as shown by this card. The bright white of the ripped two-tone cardstock ties in with the white of the butterflies, sentiment paper, and leaves, while still creating a unique look.

Embossing is one of our favorite ways to use two-tone cardstock. This technique is best used when you are showing both sides of the two-tone cardstock—either by folding it (like the beautiful card above) or by using some other method (stripes, checkerboard, etc). We love that the embossing pattern on this card is reminiscent of dewdrops, a beautiful addition to a card giving bouquet vibes.

The simple checked pattern on this card is so versatile—here it works as a nod to a nautical theme. But you can use it for all kinds of cards. A picnic-themed card, a card with bunting of some kind (maybe a circus?), or even a card for younger generations—this checkerboard pattern is a big trend right now!

If you want to up your checkerboard game using two-tone cardstock, try weaving your cardstock together in a basket pattern, as shown in this card. By weaving the cardstock together, we created a completely unique and personalized card. That’s why we love the versatility of our two-tone cardstock—it allows you to make completely customized cards that feel elevated and personalized.
